Getting Registered on NSPIRES:

NSPIRES requires that all US organizations and PIs submitting proposals to NASA be registered with the system.

Non-US based PIs also need to register with NSPIRES, but have the option of submitting their proposal through either their home institution or through the "FUSE GI Support Center". If a non-US based PI chooses to submit their proposal through the "FUSE GI Support Center", then the PI's foreign institution does not need to be registered with NSPIRES.

Registering for NSPIRES may take several days, so PLEASE START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS NOW.  Here’s how:

1.  Register yourself.

Go to http://nspires.nasaprs.com/external/, and follow the instructions.  This is a straightforward procedure, and involves entering several pieces of information, waiting for an e-mail in response, and logging in at an “initializing” website.   This will take about 24 hours altogether.

NSPIRES helpdesk is available 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. EST Mondays through Fridays

NSPIRES helpdesk Email: nspires-help@nasaprs.com

NSPIRES helpdesk phone: 202-479-9376

Once you are registered, you should check to see if your institution is also registered.  It may not be.  If not,

 2.  Get your institution registered.

NOTE the wording above: You (a proposing scientist) cannot register your institution.  You must find a particular individual, generally in the financial part of your organization, who will be the Point of Contact (POC)  for your institution.  The POC, in turn, must go to a website, submit information about your institution, receive and print out an e-mail document on company letterhead, have it signed by another person (the Organization’s Authorizing Official), and send it by Snail Mail back to NSPIRES, who will then record the presence of the paper document.  Please GET STARTED!  See details below:

NSPIRES institutional registration must be performed only by the Electronic Business Point of Contact (EBPOC) or Alternate EBPOC, as listed for your organization in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR, www.ccr.gov).  You may find out who this either at the CCR website (by searching for your institution), or by contacting your institution’s Sponsored Research Office.  It is extremely likely that your (US) institution is in the CCR if they do business with the U.S. Government..

Once you’ve located your EBPOC or alternate EBPOC, ask her/him to register the institution with NSPIRES. The EBPOC or Alternate EBPOC will be asked to fill in some organizational information, print out the Organization Registration Request and Authorization form, have it signed by the Organization Authorizing Official and send it back to NASA. Upon receipt of this form, your organization's registration will be activated.   The person requesting this registration (i.e. EBPOC or alternate EBPOC) will become the Organization's Point of Contact (OPOC) for NSPIRES. The OPOC will be granted all organizational privileges within NSPIRES and can then facilitate in setting up the organization's NSPIRES account / privilege structure

 3.  Affiliate yourself with your institution.

Go to the NSPIRES website, log in, click on Account Management, click on Affiliations, and follow the instructions.

More instructional materials may be found via the Help button on the NSPIRES website.
