FUSE Cover Page Help

The FUSE Cycle 5 Proposal Cover Page is obtained through the SYS-EYFUS system at the following url: http://proposals.hq.nasa.gov.

Before submitting your proposal, you must register with the SYS-EYFUS system to obtain a cover page and NASA Proposal Number.

Last year NASA Peer Review Services implemented a new system for managing proposal submissions, including cover pages. This system (called SYS-EYFUS) is used by several offices at NASA HQ, not just the Office of Space Sciences. There are several related items of note for FUSE proposers. The most important items are summarized below.

  • All proposers, including Co-Investigators, need to be registered users of SYS-EYFUS. When adding Co-Is, please make sure you are completing the two step process required - choose, and select.

  • You may encounter some difficulties when using the NASA SYS-EYFUS site with older web browsers. Specifically Netscape 4.75 was more cumbersome to use than Netscape 6.2. We have notified the SYS-EYFUS Help Desk of problems encountered by one user. They responded that "We have had no difficulties reported with use of older browsers, in fact we use Netscape 4.7 for testing all set-ups."

They also request that FUSE support "refer users with questions to the NPRS SYS-EYFUS Help Desk, [so that SYS-EYFUS] will be better able to diagnose and track any issues."

However, you may wish to use a more recent web browser, if possible, to ease your cover page submission.

  • The printed FUSE proposal cover page will contain a box for the name and signature of an institutional authorizing official. YOU MAY IGNORE THIS BOX FOR FUSE PROPOSALS. The FUSE NRA clearly states that no institutional signature is required until a budget is submitted following selection of scientific proposals. It was not possible to remove this signature box from the cover page for the FUSE cover page.

  • The last three digits of the identification number assigned to your proposal by the NASA Peer Review Services Web site must also be included in the required LaTeX proposal form. This identifier is displayed on the Web page and printed at the upper right-hand corner of the Cover Page/Proposal Summary. For example, in the proposal identifier "FUSE5-0000-0123," the ID number is the last three digits "123."

  • The SYS-EYFUS system requires several input fields be completed for the FUSE Proposal Cover Page that are not relevant for the FUSE proposal process.

The fields in question are used for processing grants and contracts for other NASA programs, but not for FUSE proposals. Several of these fields will be accepted if filled with zeros. Hence, we recommend that you use the following responses for these fields.

    Start Date: 04/01/2004

    End Date: 03/31/2005

Cage Code: 0 (Doesn't need to be five zeroes)

DUNS Number: 0 (But, notice that the DUNS number is not required.)

    EIN/TIN Number: 0

For the field of "International Participation/Description":

If you are a US PI with non-US Co-Is, please enter: "Foreign Co-I"

If you are a non-US PI, please enter: "Foreign PI"

Note that an authorizing, institutional signature is NOT required. Only the signature of the proposal PI is required. You may leave the field for "Name of Authorizing Official" blank. The budget may also be left blank (or enter a total value of ($) 1.0 as recommended by Section 2.1.2 of the FUSE Cycle 5 NRA)

You may also enter a 0 for the amount for earlier grants.

  • An entry of "0" may be acceptable for cover page fields which appear inappropriate for FUSE proposals, such as the aforementioned budget related fields.

If you have any further questions, please send e-mail to: fuse_support@pha.jhu.edu.

The cover page must be printed, signed by the PI, and used as the cover for each of the 12 paper copies of the submitted proposal. At least one of the copies of the proposal cover sheet should bear the PI's original signature.
