FUSE Cycle 8
LiF2 Performance
LiF2 is the guide channel for Cycle 8.
- The LiF2 Channel has the most reliable target centering.
- Image stability at the LiF2 focal plane is within +/- 1 arcsec in pitch while the satellite is in fine guiding mode.
- The CALFUSE pipeline corrects the FUSE spectrum for
effects such as charge depletion (gain sag) of the FUSE detectors. At a few
isolated locations (e.g. Lyman Beta in the LWRS aperture due to
airglow) this correction is significant. For HISTOGRAM mode
observations, pulse-height information is not available for each
detected photon, and this correction cannot be made. Thus, use of
the MDRS aperture may be justified for particular portions of the
spectrum. See section 2.5.3 of the FUSE Observer's Guide for further information.
